Olympics 2020: Alex Morgan keen to participate after becoming a mother
Alex Morgan, the USA football star, expects to participate in the Tokyo Olympics 2020 after the player set to give birth to her first child in April 2020.
USA women's football team's star striker Alex Morgan wants to participate in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. The football star had announced on October 23 that she is expecting her first child with husband Servando Carrasco. This could make it difficult for her to participate in what is arguably the biggest sporting event in the world.
Morgan, who won the gold medal with the USA national team at this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, had made the announcement on her Instagram page. In the picture, Carrasco holds a placard that reads 'Ready or Not' and Morgan holds a board that announces the month of the expected arrival. In her caption, Morgan stated that the newest member of the Carrasco family is coming in April 2020.
Morgan has three months to recover
Her first child is due in April 2020, which is just three months before USA are scheduled to participate at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. As part of the women’s national football team, Morgan helped lead her teammates (including co-captains Megan Rapinoe and Carli Lloyd) to the United States’ fourth FIFA Women’s World Cup championship in July, after also taking home the title in 2015. She was the joint top-scorer in the World Cup.
She has scored 107 goals in 169 games so far. The player was named in the FIFPro World XI thrice, in 2016, 2017 and 2019 and also won the Women's Champions League while on loan with Lyon in 2017. She was nominated for the FIFA The Best Award 2019 in the women's category held in Milan, Italy. It remains to be seen if the player is fit in time and is permitted by the Olympic authorities to join her USA compatriots in Tokyo, Japan.
