Real Madrid set to bid world record £340m for PSG star Kylian Mbappe in January: Report

According to French media reports on Tuesday, Spanish giants Real Madrid are set to offer a whopping £340 million for Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe. Mbappe has been linked with a switch to Spain since the start of his stint at Ligue 1 side Monaco, where he burst on the scene, particularly attracting severe interest from European clubs for his performance in the UEFA Champions League. 

At the age of 21, Mbappe has scored over 100 goals for his club and country on aggregate. The Frenchman was also instrumental in the FIFA World Cup 2018 win for his country in Russia, bagging the Young Player Award for his performance, besides many other individual and collective trophies for the club. He has been frequently linked with a move to Real Madrid, with previous reports stating that Zidane’s failure to guarantee a starting spot in the team forced Mbappe to switch to PSG a couple of seasons back.

According to reports, when asked about Real Madrid a year back, Mbappe had commented that he has only played for a year in his country. Being a Parisian, he does not want to leave his country that easily. He went on to confess that he wants to become a great player at PSG. According to the player himself, Madrid might have to wait to acquire his services.

Mbappe might become the most expensive player in the world

Mbappe has scored 67 goals and has 31 assists to his credit in just 104 league games. He is also the favourite to finish the season as the top scorer in Ligue 1. Real Madrid are looking to add depth to their squad in the attacking section, after the departure of talisman Cristiano Ronaldo. The club had already signed Eden Hazard in the previous summer transfer window. However, with the recent reports of Gareth Bale looking at a move away from the Bernabeu, the Los Blancos would be looking at Mbappe to replace the Welshman. If PSG does accept Madrid’s offer, then Mbappe will become the most expensive player of all time, pushing back Neymar’s transfer to PSG from Barcelona for a reported fee of £222 million.
