Barcelona youngster Gavi became the talk of the town for the football world on Monday, courtesy of his performance in the Spanish Super Cup final against Real Madrid in Saudi Arabia. While the 18-year-old scored Barca’s opening goal in the clash, he also contributed with assists as Robert Lewandowski scored the second goal, before Pedri found the back of the net. Meanwhile, Real Madrid’s Dani Ceballos was spotted pulling Gavi’s hair after the team was frustrated by the teenager’s show.
In a video currently going viral on social media, the Real Madrid midfielder can be seen grabbing Gavi’s hair, before being quickly shoved away by the Spanish teenager. Brazilian star Vinicius Junior gets involved in the heated on-field clash, as Lewandowski pulls Gavi away and ensures everything remains under control. Here’s a look at the viral video.
Gavi scores a goal and assists other two goals vs Real Madrid
As reported by SB Nation, it is understood that Gavi called Ceballos a crybaby as both players got into a heated clash. They received a bit of tickling off by the referee but the officials took no further action. Interestingly, Gavi was named the man of the match for his stellar show of picking up two assists and scoring a goal to hand Barcelona a 3-1 win in the Spanish Super Cup final.
It is pertinent to mention that this was the first trophy for the Camp Nou side under the mentorship of manager Xavi. This was also the first trophy for the team without the services of the Argentine great Lionel Messi, who left the club for PSG in 2021. Revealing his thoughts about the win, Xavi mentioned his former teammate Messi in his comments.
"Been through some tough years"
As per the Associated Press, the Barca manager said, “We’ve been through some tough years, with financial difficulties, Messi’s departure. It was not easy to bring back a positive dynamic. This will help give us some tranquility. We’ve been working hard from the beginning despite all the criticism, and we have to keep working.”
This was the first trophy for Barcelona since the Copa del Rey win in 2021 under former coach Ronald Koeman. That was the 35th overall title for Messi with Barcelona and also his last. He was forced to leave the club in the summer transfer window of 2021 due to the club’s financial struggles.
