Serie A midweek games saw Inter Milan maintain their perfect start to the season as they edged past Lazio at the San Siro stadium on Wednesday night. Danilo D'Ambrosio’s header helped the hosts secure a 1-0 win against Lazio. Defending Serie A champions Juventus are second on the table, two points behind Inter Milan.
Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte set a new record, becoming the first Inter manager to register a win in the first five Serie A matches. D’Ambrosio headed in a Matteo Biraghi cross in the 23rd minute, setting Inter for their fifth win. Goalkeeper Samir Handanovic was incredible throughout the match, blocking Lazio's attempts.
Serie A: Antonio Conte's take on the game
Addressing the Italian media after the match, Antonio Conte claimed it to be a tough and important victory against a strong Lazio side. He said that it was not at all an easy win for Inter. Handanovic made two fine stops to deny Lazio forward Joaquin Correa, maintaining Inter’s lead going into half time. Lazio coach, Simone Inzaghi replaced Felipe Caicedo with Ciro Immobile in an attempt to get back in the match but Inter Milan held on to all three points.
Antonio Conte added that he was happy with the first half as he analysed the game splitting into two parts. He found Inter Milan laid back after scoring the first goal after they started aggressively. He thought that his players were slow on the field, allowing Lazio to attack. He thanked Handanovic for being excellent in that period, making the difference.
Antonio Conte's Inter Milan will be travelling to Stadio Luigi Ferraris for a clash against Sampdoria in the next Serie A game.
