Atletico Madrid's star summer signing Joao Felix scored his first goal in the Champions League to become the youngest player to score in the competition for Atletico Madrid and gave his team a 0-1 lead. Morata's rebounded shot met the Portuguese youngster and Felix made no error to slot one home. Thomas Partey took no time to double Atletico's lead as Felix released Costa into space on the right with a superb ball before the striker squared to Thomas for a simple tap-in.

Atletico Madrid had many chances to clinch an early lead in the first half when a header from Joao Felix met unmarked Diego Costa in the box, who somehow missed an open goal in front of him. Alvaro Morata, who was suspended for Atletico’s Saturday clash against Real Madrid, also had an opportunity to put his side ahead before the first half but was denied by Guilherme.

Joao Felix in the post-match interview stated that it was only a matter of time before his side scored a goal as they were constantly attacking Lokomotiv’s goal. Partey, who also played an important role in Real Madrid’s clash, extended Atletico’s lead in this clash. Jan Oblak displayed an out and out show to deny the home side any chance for a goal. Atletico’s coach Diego Simeone added that his team were able to convert those chances that they have been struggling to do so far.
