Tottenham Hotspur were humiliated at home by a ruthless Bayern Munich side as they lost 2-7 on the matchday 2 of the UEFA Champions League 2019-20 season. Serge Gnabry’s four second-half goals and a Robert Lewandowski brace took the game beyond the reach of Spurs. Tottenham forward Son Heung-Min scored the opening goal of the match in the 12th minute. Another goal for Spurs was scored by Harry Kane via a penalty. Let’s take a look at the top four players from the match.
UEFA Champions League: Top five players in Tottenham vs Bayern clash
1. Serge Gnabry
It seemed to be Gnabry’s night as he finished the game with four fantastic goals. In search of a hat-trick, he raced away from Jan Vertonghen to collect a through-ball from Thiago Alcantara as he swept past Hugo Lloris with just two touches. He made Spurs’ defence look mediocre with his silky movement and precision. The 24-year-old winger started his career with Arsenal but the former Gunners boss Arsene Wenger couldn't get the best out of Gnabry.
2. Robert Lewandowski
Lewandowski scored a goal in the 45th minute, giving the Bundesliga giants confidence before the second half. Lewandowski was part of the beautiful attacking flow that saw Bayern ship seven goals in London. The Polish striker scored his second in the 87th minute.
3. Joshua Kimmich
Kimmich’s opening goal for Bayern was magnificent. He took three touches, controlled his body and lashed it past Hugo Lloris. He controlled the ball from his first touch and successfully deceived midfielder Sissoko to create an opening in front of goal. This goal boosted the confidence of the visitors as they equalised the opening goal netted by the hosts.
4. Son Heung-Min
Son tried creating chances and took shots in the first half. He had his two shots saved by Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer before he flashed the ball under Neuer’s outstretched hand. Sissoko’s assist proved to be efficient for the opening goal of hosts.
