TIME Magazine is famous for its 'Time 100' lists where it takes a look at 100 important people in certain fields or categories. In 2019, TIME has launched a new list called the 'Time 100 Next', a list which takes look at 100 people who are forging the path for the future of business, sports, politics, science, and health. Two notable figures emerged in the inaugural list, champion Indian athlete Dutee Chand and English all-rounder Ben Stokes.
Stars of the future
The 23-year-old Indian sprinter Dutee Chand is a trendsetter in her own right. She became the first Indian to win the 100-metre sprint at the World University Games in 2019. She is currently focused on qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Earlier this year, Dutee also made a bold move when she came out about her sexuality and announced that she was in a same-sex relationship. This announcement made her the first Indian athlete to formally come out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community and made her a symbol of strength and power.
Ecstatic and Humbled!

Ben Stokes is another athlete who is on the list and why would not he be? Stokes has had a magical season for the English team, helping them win their first-ever World Cup in July 2019. After that, Stokes played a very big part in arguably one of the greatest Test match victories of all-time when he led England to a very unlikely victory at Headingley against Australia which kept England's Ashes hopes alive. The ICC named Stokes in the Team-of-the-tournament for the World Cup of 2019. He is currently fourth on the ICC Test All-rounder rankings.
