Hima Das Ruled Out Of World Championships With Back Injury

"Unfortunately Hima will not be able to compete at the World Championships in Doha due to her back injury," Athletics Federation of India (AFI) president Adille Sumariwalla said. Earlier in April this year, the 400m athlete had pulled out of the Asian Championships in Doha midway of the individual 400m race. Deputy chief coach Radhakrishnan Nair, had then attributed the mishap to a lower back spasm at L4 and L5 which are the lowest two vertebrae in the lumbar spine. Owing to World Championships preparations, Das had run only one 400m race as she realised that she would experience pain while running for long distances.
