Magnus Carlsen finally claimed his maiden Chess World Cup title as he defeated India's R Praggnanandhaa in the final in Baku, Azerbaijan. The final scoreline read 1.5-0.5 as the Norwegian edged the 18 year old in a nailbiting encounter. Since Viswanathan Anand's participation in the Chess World Cup final, Praggnanandhaa became the second Indian ever to feature in this prestigious clash.

Carlsen admitted that he was going through food poisoning during the Chess World Cup final and it might be the reason he tried the aggressive manoeuvre to draw the first game. Only this particular trophy eluded him so far in his esteemed career and the 32 year old took to social media to make the world aware of his achievement. He posted a gif which read, "completed it" alongside the caption "Chess?"
