Initially, the Lakers had a 13-2 lead over the Clippers as Kawhi Leonard missed his first two shots and turned the ball over twice. However, Leonard gained momentum in Q2 and continued to perform well, winning his team the season-opening battle of Los Angeles. Despite constant attacks from the Lakers, Clippers managed to come out on top. Montrezl Harrell and Lou Williams scored 17 and 21 points respectively, with a combined total of eleven assists. Danny Green set a new record for a Lakers debut with his 28 points. LeBron James and Anthony Davis scored the early points for LA Lakers during Q1. As a result of Leonard's seven straight shots in the first half, Clippers went into half time with a 62-54 advantage.

Green did not back down, and the Lakers went into Q4 with the score tied at 85, as the shooting guard led an 18-point Q3. Clippers managed to regain their lead, bagging a win with a 10-point lead. Leonard added six rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block to his 30 points. Clippers hold the Lakers to force 15 turnovers and 43.5 percent shooting from the field.
