UFC: Contender Series in China
UFC is going to launch an Asian installment of Dana White’s Tuesday Night 'Contender Series' and according to American media reports, UFC plans to host this new show on Wednesday. UFC already has their Performance Institute in Shanghai. UFC has still not determined the distribution details but it is pretty obvious that their roster is going to shine with more talents from China or Asia in the next year.
Zhang Weili dethroned Jessica Andrade to become the strawweight champion and became the first Chinese fighter to hold a belt and looking at the current situation, we can expect more champions from China. UFC President Dana White is pretty happy with his new decision and surely expects positive results out of it.
“One of my favourite parts of my job is looking for up-and-coming talent. There’s no area in the world right now with more potential MMA talent than Asia. We’re going to use Dana White’s Contender Series to find these fighters, develop them, and give them the opportunity to perform on the biggest stage in combat sports.” Said Dana White in an interview.
UFC: Zhang Weili's Run
Zhang Weili is in the peak of her rise. She knocked out the Brazilian Andrade for the strawweight title and is already aiming at big names for her next fight. The Chinese has already expressed her desire to fight flyweight Champion Valentina but Valentina has ruled out the possibility of the match-up and didn't consider Weili worthy enough. Whether Valentina considers her worthy or not, Chinese MMA is already rising in the UFC and UFC have shown their interest over China announcing the Contender Series for sure.
