Wrestling superstar Vinesh Phogat and her Hungarian coach Woller Akos are ready to leave for high-altitude training in Bulgaria just one day after the Senior National Championship ends in Jalandhar on December 1. The grappler is expected to train above 2,050 metres above sea level between Rhodope and Rila Mountain in sub-zero temperatures at the Belmeken High Mountain Sports Complex. Phogat is eyeing to get a great physique for the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 and she believes that the special training in Bulgaria is going to provide her much-needed core strength.
Tokyo Olympics 2020: Vinesh Phogat’s high-altitude training
The Indian missed out on a medal at the Rio Olympics due to an injury and she is leaving no bars behind this time. Vinesh is eager to keep herself in the best shape possible with the 2020 Tokyo Olympics on the line. The Senior National Championship is going to take place from November 29 to December 1 and Vinesh Phogat will be participating in it.
On December 2, the Indian wrestler is expected to leave for her training in Hungary and return after December 15. In an interview with Wrestling TV, Vinesh Phogat said that the trip is her coach Woller Akos' idea since training in those Bulgarian conditions can give the wrestler much more confidence as well as physique. Although Vinesh is not completely aware of the training she will undergo, the Indian wrestler thinks it will include rock climbing, running and weightlifting will be a part of her schedule.
Tokyo Olympics 2020: Woller Akos’s opinion
According to Akos, it is more about power exercises for strengthening the core and lower body and said that the day temperatures might drop to 0 degrees Celsius, while it may get to -5 to 6 degrees at night. The training will go on after they return from Bulgaria and Akos believes that the time in Bulgaria is going to be very crucial for Vinesh's evolution as a wrestler. The duo has achieved a lot of milestones together and the upcoming training schedule is expected to be a great success ahead of the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.
