The Rock is all set to make his electrifying comeback on the debut episode of SmackDown on FOX. The Rock was a part of the main event of SmackDown when it was first introduced two decades ago. Surely this Friday night will become memorable after the people’s champ enters the ring. Nevertheless, the most memorable thing about The Rock was his in-ring performance and the rivalries he had with other wrestlers during his WWE career. Here are some famous rivalries The Rock had in his decade long career in WWE.
WWE: The Rock vs ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin
According to WWE itself, The Rock’s rivalry with Stone Cold Steve Austin is still the greatest rivalry the WWE universe has ever seen. The two biggest superstars of WWE’s Attitude Era were destined to clash at WrestleMania. Their rivalry was so big they showcased three main events in WrestleMania, no one has done that in WWE till now. It all started with an Intercontinental Championship match and later all of their matches became legendary. The first WrestleMania match they fought was in 1999, where the Texas Rattlesnake regained his title by delivering a ‘Stone Cold’ Stunner to The Rock. History repeated itself when the two fought again at WrestleMania 17. Strone Cold won again but this time with the help of WWE chairman Vince McMahon. Their final showdown was at WrestleMania 19 where The Rock defeated Stone Cold by delivering three ‘Rock Bottoms.’ This match also marked Strone Cold’s last match in WWE.
WWE: The Rock vs Triple H
Their rivalry originally started in 1997 when The Rock defeated The Game and won the Intercontinental Championship. This grew when Vince McMahon assisted Triple H in retaining the WWF Championship at WrestleMania 2000. Later The Rock won the title back by once again defeating Triple H. Their rivalry continued for years and it was in full showcase when Stone Cold had to leave WWE because of a neck injury. The Rock and Triple H were the first wrestlers to fight in the main event of SmackDown when it was first introduced two decades ago.
WWE: The Rock vs John Cena
For a long time, it seemed as if a match between John Cena and The Rock would remain a dream match. That changed when The Brahma Bull returned to host WrestleMania 27 and cost John Cena his WWE championship against the Miz at the main event. The night after, the wrestlers came together and set up the ‘Once in a Lifetime’ match for WrestleMania 28. The Rock eventually defeated John Cena in the main event of WrestleMania. But this was not over, both met again at WrestleMania 29 and Cena defeated The Rock in the main event.
