Andy Murray made a stunning comeback from his hip surgery to win his first title in almost two years. 32-year-old Murray won against Stan Wawrinka 3-6 6-4 6-4 in the European Cup match in Antwerp on October 20. An emotional Andy Murray called the victory one of the biggest wins of his career.

Talking to the press after his win, the three-time Grand Slam champion stated that the last few years had been challenging, and he didn’t expect to win a title so soon. As Andy Murray lifted the trophy, there was an outpouring of love and support on social media. Fellow sports stars and fans hailed Murray’s win and praised his determination and form.

Twitter reacts to Andy Murray's win

Stan Wawrinka, who has also had several recent injury issues, stated that it was terrific to see Murray perform on the court. The Swissman said that though he was sad to lose the match, he was delighted to see Andy Murray back on the court.

Andy Murray’s brother, Jaimie Murray, took to Twitter to cheer for his sibling and celebrate his win. Also, their mother, Judy Murray, posted a picture of a champagne glass, raising a toast to her son’s victory and comeback.


Feliciano Lopez wrote on Twitter that it made him immensely happy to see Andy Murray succeed. He praised Murray for his performance after the tough times he has had with injuries and surgery. He called Murray an inspiration.

Greg Rusedski lauded Murray for playing a winning game with a metal hip. He appreciated Andy Murray’s efforts to come back from set down to beat Stan Wawrinka.

At the Australian Open in January, Andy Murray had feared that his hip injury might end his professional Tennis career. But despite his fears, he put on exceptional performance in a doubles match in June and then returned to the singles game in August.
His comeback has been promising with him reaching the quarterfinal of the China Open. However, on Sunday, Murray put on one of the best performances of his career against Wawrinka, who is playing really well, to win the European Cup.
