Head-to-head

The two players have faced off thrice so far with all the three matches played this year only. Federer has won twice, while Tsitsipas has registered one win. Federer faces a dangerous opponent in Tsitsipas, who beat him at this year’s Australian Open in the quarter-final in four sets. Since that meeting, the Swiss star has gone on to beat him a couple of times, firstly in the Dubai Open final, which was his milestone 100th career title and the Basel semi-final just a few weeks ago.

Federer finished second in Group Bjorn Borg after falling to Dominic Thiem in his first match, 5-7, 5-7. He then defeated Matteo Berrettini, 7-6 (2), 6-3, before a master-class against Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-3, in a duel which meant that only the winner would advance into the semi-finals. Federer had not defeated Djokovic since the 2015 Finals, making it a monumental victory for the former. Tsitsipas lost out to Nadal, 7-6, 4-6, 5-7  in his previous match on Friday, but defeated Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev to reach the semi-finals.
