'Sharing that feat with Roger would be amazing': Alcaraz opens up on his US Open dream

Carlos Alcaraz, the current US Open winner, declared his desire to emulate the legendary record that Roger Federer holds in the prestigious American tournament.

The US Open 2023 is currently going on, and last year's winner Carlos Alcaraz is one of the best players in the tennis world recently. The favourites to win the men's singles title in the latest edition of the tournament are Novak Djokovic and Alcaraz. Djokovic beat Laslo Djere, who was from the same country as him, in the third round to move on to the Round of 16. On September 2, 2023, in the third round of the US Open, the Spaniard will play Dan Evans.

Alcaraz aims to defend his US Open title like Roger Federer 

In the second round of the US Open 2023, Carlos Alcaraz beat Lloyd Harris from South Africa. The match took place at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York. The Spaniard won with ease, 6-3, 6-1, 7-6(4), and moved on to the third round, where he will play Dan Evans. 

Carlos Alcaraz aims to defend his US Open title and join Roger Federer as the first to do so. Roger Federer won five US Opens in a row from 2004 to 2008. Since then, no player has won the US Open for consecutive years. According to tennis journalist Jose Morgado, Alcaraz emphasised his appreciation for Federer and his wish to celebrate this victory together.  He said: 

"Sharing that feat with Roger would be amazing,"

Alcaraz made a huge statement ahead of his match against Dan Evans

After winning his match against Lloyd Harris, Alcarazed acknowledged, the struggles he faced against Harris, and after the match, he said: 

"I think I played great, a great match. But obviously in the third set he started to play better. I got down a little bit. I need extra energy in the third set. In the end, I think I played a pretty good match and will try to keep the same level."

On facing his next opponent,  Dan Evans in the third round, he said:

"It's a really tough player, good serve and volley, good net game. It's going to be really tough. I will have to return very, very well if I want to win that match."

Carlos Alcaraz will eye-defend his title and, for now, will be looking to secure his place in the Round of 16 of the US Open. His highly anticipated opponent from the competition, Novak Djokovic, has already secured his place in the RO16.
