Vince McMahon willing to put aside differences and have CM Punk back
Reports: WWE Chairman Vince McMahon is supposedly willing to put aside his differences to bring back one of the biggest stars in company history, CM Punk
WWE Chairman Vince McMahon is supposedly willing to put aside his differences to bring back one of the biggest stars in company history. According to Sportskeeda's Tom Colohue, the WWE Chairman is open to the idea of CM Punk returning to the squared circle for the world's No. 1 wrestling promotions. There was a time when CM Punk was one of the most popular pro-wrestlers in WWE but he had a falling out with the McMahon and the Chief Operating Officer Triple H back in 2014 which resulted in Punk leaving the industry.
In a statement, Colohue said, “Firstly, as regards WWE Backstage, I am told by a source in Fox that CM Punk was never close to the presenting role that he applied for. The idea that WWE does not have a say in the people on their own platform is apparently very wide of the mark and while the WWE isn’t known to have outright vetoed the move I am told that the concerns of their management were definitely heard. I can also report that Vince McMahon himself...is open to the idea of having CM Punk return to the wrestling ring. Sources tell me that ‘Vince sees the potential to make money’ from CM Punk and ‘(Vince) has no problem with Punk. He’d love to have him back.’”
Colohue also said that McMahon is however not willing to reach out to Punk himself, but will happily take a phone call if CM Punk decides to wrestle again. Punk once seemed to be against ever wrestling again but he appears to have changed his tune in recent times. Back in September Punk reportedly said that he wouldn't have a conversation with WWE about potentially working with/for the company again.
CM Punk Unlikely To Return
In some disappointing news for WWE fans, CM Punk has announced that he is yet to hear back from the company on his return. Punk had recently auditioned for the WWE Backstage on FSI. However, the former WWE superstar said that there had been no news on a potential deal. Earlier, there was also speculation among pro-wrestling fans that Punk may sign a deal with WWE's rivals. All Elite Wrestling (AEW). However, Punk has dismissed these speculations in a leading podcast and even called out fans for spreading false rumours. CM Punk also took a jibe at AEW, alluding that he had not even heard of the company.
