In some disappointing news for WWE fans, CM Punk has announced that he is yet to hear back from the company on his return. Punk had recently auditioned for the WWE Backstage on FSI. However, the former WWE superstar said that there had been no news on a potential deal.
CM Punk is not favoured anymore
Earlier, there was also speculation among pro-wrestling fans that Punk may sign a deal with WWE's rivals All Elite Wrestling (AEW). However, Punk has dismissed these speculations in a leading podcast and even called out fans for spreading false rumours. CM Punk also took a jibe at AEW, alluding that he had not even heard of the company.
The WWE Backstage on FSI was hosted by WWE Hall of fame alumni Booker T and Renee Young. Following the AEW rumour came the rumour that CM Punk was given a tryout for the WWE show. Later, Punk confirmed this. Following the revelation, there were mixed reports. One suggested that the FOX executives had almost agreed to rope in Punk for the show. Meanwhile, another report indicated that though CM Punk had impressed the FOX executives, they had decided to pass him on for now. Amidst these reports, CM Punk’s confirmation that he has not heard back from FOX or the WWE indicates that his chances of signing a deal are growing slimmer by the day.
Punk said that he had received a call from FOX while he was in LA for a tryout and he had gone there for an audition. He further added that he had not heard anything from the network since then. He said that he had not heard from Renee or Booker T, whom he had not seen for over five years before the tryout.
CM Punk further spoke of how he loves commentary. Punk, who recently competed in the MMA Arena, may not have been doing great there, but he has been enjoying his stint as a commentator.
He told the podcast that when the network approached him for the tryout, they pitched the role to him, saying he would be an authority on wrestling for the network. He said that they were impressed with his WWE career and wanted him to be an analyst on the show. Well, nothing is guaranteed just yet. With no statement from WWE or FOX, there could still be hope for Punk.
