NBA: Miami Heat suspend Dion Waiters after consuming ban substance

NBA: Dion Waiters suffered an adverse reaction to an edible infused with THC an active ingredient in marijuana, which is on the NBA's banned substance list.

Player's suspension has been in news for the past couple of weeks and this time it was the turn of Miami Heat guard Dion Waiters who was reportedly suspended by his team for 10 games without pay the announcement of which was done on Sunday by the franchise. Speaking to a US media website on condition of anonymity a source said that Waiters suffered an adverse reaction to an edible infused with THC which is an active ingredient in marijuana, which is on the list of  NBA's banned substance.

Miami Heat release statement on Dion Waiters situation

Heat in its statement said that they are very disappointed in Dion's actions this season that include the very scary situation on Thursday night, and grateful that the outcome wasn't worse.

The statement also said that there have been a number of instances this season in which Dion Walters has engaged in conduct detrimental to the team. It also said that the team expect all players, including Dion Walters, to conduct themselves in accordance with the highest standards, and to show professionalism and respect for their teammates, the team, the fans and the NBA community.

Dion Waiters panic attack 

Earlier a leading sports website reported Dion Waiters of having a panic attack on the team charter flight after ingesting the edible. He was suffering from a stomach ache and seeking relief when he ingested the substance after the team's victory over the Phoenix Suns. He received medical treatment after the plane landed in Los Angeles and did not attend Friday's game against the Lakers due to illness.

The shooting guard is currently is in the third year of a reported four-year, $52 million deal with the Heat. He is owed $12.1 million this season and $12.6 million next season, which is the final year of the deal. Dion Waiters will lose a $1.1 million bonus for not appearing in at least 70 games this season.
