Chris Benoit was one of the best in-ring performers for WWE. In fact, Benoit was there with the company since its World Wrestling Federation (WWF) days. During his wrestling career, Chris Benoit has held 22 championships. 'The Rabid Wolverine' has been a Triple Crown Champion in both WCW and WWE as he had also held the Intercontinental and United States Championships. Benoit could have won another world championship if not for his untimely demise. Now, his first son David wants to follow his father's footsteps and aspires to become a wrestler. However, unlike his late father, he does not wish to be a part of WWE.
David Benoit does not want to wrestle for WWE
During a recent interview with Fred Rosser on his podcast show Pro & Bro Wrestling Podcast, Chris Benoit's son David has made it clear that he does not wish to wrestle for WWE and would be happy to be a part of All Elite Wrestling (AEW). Benoit Jr. then went on to make a shocking revelation that he is no longer allowed backstage at WWE events. The 26-year-old has not explained the reason behind it but reportedly when he had made his last WWE backstage appearance earlier this year, he was seen wearing an AEW jacket.
“I want to go to AEW one hundred percent,” he told Rosser when asked where he’d like to wrestle. “I love AEW. I love what they do for the boys. Take care of them.”, said David Benoit.
Here's the video of Benoit Jr's entire interview.
Chris Benoit's WWE career
Chris Benoit had won the WCW World Heavyweight Championship once. In WWE, his best year was in 2004 when he won the Royal Rumble by eliminating the Big Show. The very next night on Raw, he switched over to the red brand from Smackdown as he confronted Triple H and Shawn Michaels to set up a triple threat match for the World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemana XX where he would go on to win his first and only world championship with WWE. He held that title for the next five months before dropping it to Randy Orton at Summerslam. The most standout feature of that year's Wrestlemania was that of Chris Benoit and his real-life best friend Eddie Guerrero were seen hugging each other with tears of joy after the event. Earlier, Guerrero had defeated Kurt Angle for the WWE Championship. When Eddie Guerrero had passed away in 2005, Chris Benoit was seen crying inconsolably with Rey Mysterio and Chavo Guerrero during a special tribute show for Eddie on Raw. It is said that Eddie's death had mentally affected Benoit.
Why WWE does not remember Benoit?
Chris Benoit was found dead along with his second wife and son on June 25, 2007, at their Georgia residence. Further investigations revealed that Benoit had committed double murders before ending his own life. He first killed his family and then committed suicide by hanging himself on his lat pulldown machine. After the deceased wrestler's brain tests were conducted, it was revealed that his brain was so severely damaged it resembled the brain of an 85-year-old Alzheimer's patient. This happened as a result of repeated concussions that he might have suffered during his wrestling career. Once the details of Benoit's actions became apparent, WWE made the decision to remove nearly all mentions of Benoit from their website, future broadcasts and all publications. Chris Benoit did not even receive a WWE Hall of Fame induction posthumously.
