Aakash Chopra BREAKS Silence on Rishabh Pant's Controversial Dismissal During Mumbai Test vs NZ
There has already been much talk about the Rishabh Pant dismissal during the Mumbai Test versus New Zealand.
There has already been much talk about the Rishabh Pant dismissal during the Mumbai Test versus New Zealand. Pant seemed to be the only Indian batter who seemed to have got a hang of the wicket and was doing a brilliant job. Hours after the match, former India opener Aakash Chopra said that he is still unsure about the dismissal. He also reckons there was enough doubt to give it not out.
'It's a tight one'
"Was he out? It's a tight one. Hot Spot was the only way to know whether he was out or not. Hot Spot is not used. It's military technology and isn't available everywhere that easily. Very expensive also. Let's be fair, it has never been used in India," he said.
‘Felt he could have been given not out’
"There are two opinions. A slight deflection was visible, maybe that's what went against him, but the bat was brushing the pad at the same time. The New Zealand guys would think he was out and the Indian guys would think he was not out. I felt he could have been given not out. There is enough doubt for you to give it not out and stay with the umpire's call," Chopra added.
Pant top-scored for India with 64 off 57 balls. His knock was laced with nine fours and a six. The time till he was in the middle in the 147 chase, things seemed in control, but once he departed, he chase was derailed and eventually India lost the match by 25 runs. New Zealand whitewashed India 3-0. The loss has also affected India's chances of making the World Test Championship final.
India have to win 5-0 or 4-0 in Australia not to depend on other results. SA (69.4%) or SL (69.2%) and NZ (64.3%) can pip India even of they win 4-1 (they will get to 64.0%).
