As per the ICC regulations, India has been hosting home games for Afghanistan and the ongoing series will also provide home advantage to the Rashid Khan-led side. Afghanistan vs West Indies head-to-head in ODIs

Both Afghanistan and West Indian cricket teams have provided exuberant contests, especially in limited-overs cricket. It all started when Afghanistan defeated West Indies in their final Group Stage game of the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 in India. Even though the West Indies won the tournament, their set-back to Afghanistan in Group Stage remained their only defeat in an otherwise successful campaign.

Prior to the start of the upcoming ODI series in India, both teams have faced each other six times in the format. Even though the 1975 and 1979 World Cup winners have come out on top on two occasions, the Afghan team have maintained a better record against the Caribbean team with three wins. One of their matches was abandoned due to continuous rains.

The two teams faced each other for the first time when the Afghanistan unit toured the Caribbean in 2017. Even though the West Indian line-up completely dominated the T20I series, the ODI matches that followed were much more competitive. The three-match ODI series was drawn as both teams managed a win each in closely-fought contests.

Both teams came face-to-face again, this time during the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier of 2017-18. They first met each other for the 21st match of that tournament, which saw Afghanistan winning by 3 wickets. They once again defeated the hapless WI in the final of that event.

For their latest meeting, the two teams faced each other in England this year during the ICC Cricket World Cup. This time, West Indies completely dominated the proceedings at Headingley, Leeds to trump the Gulbadin Naib-led side by 23 runs in an otherwise dead-rubber. Starting from November 6, Keiron Pollard’s team will now be looking to improve their ODI track record against the newest ICC full member.
