Sri Lanka's Sadeera Samarawickrama played a crucial role, scoring an aggressive 93 off just 72 balls, guiding his team to a total of 257 for the loss of 9 wickets after Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan chose to field. Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka showcased his all-round skills by taking three important top-order wickets, setting the tone for the match. Maheesh Theekshana's carrom balls in the death overs proved to be a game-changer as Bangladesh was bowled out for 236.

Sri Lanka's victory marked their 13th successive win in one-day internationals, the second-longest streak in men's ODI history. Despite Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka's solid contributions, Bangladesh fought back, thanks to Shoriful Islam's impressive bowling. However, Sri Lanka's strong all-round performance secured them a well-deserved victory in this thrilling encounter.
Sri Lanka will next face India in their second Super 4 match of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 on September 12 in Colombo.
