‘Baba Ki Jay Ho’: Mohammed Shami Claps Back at Sanjay Manjrekar’s IPL Price Drop Remarks
Mohammed Shami responded strongly to Sanjay Manjrekar’s comments about his potential IPL price drop, using the phrase "Baba Ki Jay Ho".
Mohammed Shami is among India's best bowlers, although following the ODI World Cup 2023 he had a significant injury that sidelined him. On his possible comeback to competitive cricket, however, there is great expectation as supporters want to see him back in action and help the squad flourish once more, as he recently made an appearance in the Ranji Trophy, eyeing his flare-up to the Indian Team.
Mohammed Shami slams Sanjay Manjrekar for predicting a drop in his IPL price
Mohammed Shami replied to Sanjay Manjrekar's recent remarks on his IPL career. Manjrekar has said that Shami's value will decline dramatically in the IPL mega-auction set for 2025.
Claiming the purple hat in the 2023 IPL season, the Indian fast bowler went to Instagram to vent his dissatisfaction. Shami asked Manjrekar to store his "insight" for later and keep his ideas to himself in a sarcastic post on the morning of November 21. Taking a direct jab at the commentator's projection on his future in the IPL, the message arrived only one day before Shami was scheduled to play the Perth Test match. Shami posted on his Instagram story:
"Baba ki jai hoooooo. Thoda sa gyan apne future k lie bhi bacha loo kaam ayega Sanjay G? Kisi ko future janna ho to sir se mile,"
Sanjay Manjrekar had before stated on Star Sports that Mohammed Shami's value in the IPL might drop in light of his previous injury record. After an ankle injury caused a year-long break from competitive cricket, Shami returned and had to have surgery after the ODI World Cup final in Australia in 2023. Sanjay Manjrekar’s comment on Mohammed Shami:
"There will definitely be interest from teams, but given Shami's injury history—and this recent one took a significant amount of time to recover—there’s always a concern about a potential breakdown during the season. If a franchise invests heavily and then loses him mid-season, their options become limited. This concern might lead to a drop in his price tag,"
Shami will now be seen in action for Bengal in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024-25 which will be starting this week.
