BCCI Accepts Harmanpreet Kaur's Request, New Support Staff Likely To Join India Women's Cricket Team
The women's team which is gearing up for the T20 World Cup, recently lost the finals of the Asia Cup to Sri Lanka
India has never been short of sporting talents and individuals who can prove their mettle on the international stage. But it is their knack of collapsing on the big stage that keeps them away from trophies and medals. The recently concluded Paris Olympics is the biggest example of how Indian players end up taking a lot of pressure on themselves. This has been the case with the Indian women's cricket team too who have constantly collapsed in the knockouts of ICC events.
BCCI Accepts Harmanpreet Kaur's Special Request: Reports
The Indian Women's Cricket Team is gearing up to participate in the T20 Women's World Cup. The tournament will be played later this year in Bangladesh. Right now the tournament's future is in jeopardy considering the unrest in Bangladesh. The International Cricket Council (ICC) is monitoring the situation and is yet to make any concrete decision regarding the same.
As far as the women's teams' fortune in the World T20 is considered, they lost the finals to Australia in 2020 and bowed out of the semis in 2022 against the same opponents. This is many ways can be considered as a mental blockage but the team is now trying to work towards it.
It is now being said that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will arrange a sports psychologist to conduct sessions for the women's team. The team led by Harmanpreet Kaur will participate in a fitness and conditioning camp at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. As per a report in ESPNcricinfo, the arrangements have been made on India captain Harmanpreet Kaur's request.
Notable Omissions From Team India's Training Camp
The Indian Team will participate in these sessions to prepare themselves for the high pressure situations that they might face in the Women's T20 World Cup. In the previous two editions they fought their way up, only to collapse in the final stages of the tournaments. Much to India's misfortune, they will be without few of their clutch players who are participating in the Women's Hundred and the Women's Caribbean Premier League (WCPL).
Star players like Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma are not going to be available for the first two camps.
