BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has appointed Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach of Team India.
Following the end of Rahul Dravid's tenure as the head coach of Team India, BCCI secretary Jay Shah has made the impending announcement of new head coach's appointment. Gautam Gambhir has become the new head coach of Team India. India's tour of Sri Lanka will be Gambhir's first assignment with Team India.

Gautam Gambhir Becomes New Head Coach of Team India
Speculations were already rife about Gautam Gambhir being zeroed in as the new head coach of Team India, the inevitable announcement has ended the formality. A week ago Jay Shah had announced that a new head coach would take over the duties ahead of Team India's Sri Lanka tour and a week later a name that was making the waves has indeed been picked as the new head coach of Team India.
Team India is currently on tour to Zimbabwe, where they are engaged in a 5-match T20I series. VVS Laxman is overseeing things as coach. Gambhir will take over ahead of India's series against Sri Lanka, which is scheduled to start from July 27.
What is Gautam Gambhir's record as the coach?
Gautam Gambhir hasn't coached any team before, his experience of the sort lies in being a former mentor of IPL outfits Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders. Under Gambhir's mentorship, Lucknow Super Giants made it to the playoffs in its debut season in 2022 and 2023 as well. Garnering 17 wins for the franchise in the group stage. In 2024, he carried out the same duties for Kolkata Knight Riders and won them the IPL trophy after a ten-year-long wait. Thus, Gautam Gambhir's prowess as the brains behind the outfit is proven and it will be intriguing to see how Team India will fare under him.
