BCCI Sec. Jay Shah Makes Big Announcement; Names Captain for Upcoming WTC Final And Champions Trophy
In a video message disseminated by Jay Shah, he has once again conveyed his congratulations to Team India and made further announcements regarding future.
After bestowing a whopping prize money of Rs.125 crore on Team India for winning the T20 World Cup 2024, BCCI secretary Jay Shah has come out to make a public address. In a video message disseminated by Shah, he has once again conveyed his congratulations to Team India for attaining glorious victory in the USA and West Indies. He dedicated the victory in the final against South Africa to retired T20 stalwarts Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja and the departed head coach Rahul Dravid.

Jay Shah thanked Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandya for their superlative show in the final five overs in the India vs South Africa T20 World Cup Final. He then talked about the upcoming assignments and expressed confidence in the appointed captain Rohit Sharma to bring home the WTC maze and Champions Trophy. WTC is an ongoing tournament whose final will be played in 2025 and the Champions Trophy will take place in 2025.
"Congratulations to Team India for its historic win. I want to dedicate this win to coach Rahul Dravid, captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja. This was our third final in the last one year. We lost the WTC Final in June 2023. "On November 23, after winning 10 matches, we won hearts, but we were not able to win the Cup. I said in Rajkot that on June 24 that we will win hearts, win the Cup and hoist the flag in Barbados. And our captain hoisted it there. The significance of the last 5 overs in this win was immeasurable. For their contribution, I thank, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandya. "After this win, the next phase is the WTC final and the Champions Trophy, I am fully confident that our team, under Rohit Sharma's captaincy, will become champions. Thank you all once again. Jai Hind, Jai Bharat. Vande Mataram." Jay Shah said in a video shared by the BCCI.
Thus, Jay Shah has confirmed that Rohit Sharma will captain Team India in the WTC Final, should India reach there, and in the Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan in 2025.
