BCCI seeks Shashank Manohar's ouster as President of the ICC
BCCI: N Srinivasan, Niranjan Shah were kept away from the general meeting. Tamil Nadu, Haryana, and Maharashtra cricket's representatives were also kept away
There has been a slew of problems in the country's cricketing structure that need to be dealt with but, the newly-elected BCCI authorities are adamant on regaining their lost position at the International Cricket Council (ICC). This does not mean to only stand in the way of Shashank Manohar’s new governance model, but also to ensure his conclusion as the ICC chairman next year.
As former India captain Sourav Ganguly took over as the new BCCI president with his administrators, there were a few unusual incidents. For the general body meeting, seniors N Srinivasan, Niranjan Shah were reportedly kept away from the meeting. CoA chief Vinod Rai was presiding over the general body meeting and both of them don't qualify as per the new constitution so it would have caused an issue. Ganguly realised that and he pointed it out to CK Khanna who is the acting president until Wednesday. Tamil Nadu, Haryana, and Maharashtra cricket association's representatives were also kept away since these units were in objection.
BCCI to evaluate all the decisions taken during the last three years
According to various reports, as soon as the general meeting was done with there was another meeting which was attended by everybody, including Srinivasan and Shah. A number of important issues were discussed in this meeting. The passing of accounts had been delayed by a month. The report suggests that the administrators will evaluate all the decisions taken during the last three years which includes decisions with respect to cricket operations.
The BCCI is eager to have their representative in the ICC committee formed by Shashank Manohar which involves Cricket Australia chairman Earl Eddings, Greg Barclay (NZ), Tony Brian (Scotland), Ehsan Mani (Pakistan), Chris Nenzani (SA) and Ricky Skerritt (WI) to suggest a new governance model. The ICC reportedly wants this model to begin as soon as possible and plans to include more women in administration. The BCCI has been completely opposing this model of governance as it wants to establish its authority. BCCI is trying to oppose Manohar's extension as they believe it can cause the model to shelve.
The selectors will meet on Thursday to select the squad for T20I and Test series against Bangladesh which starts from November 3. Virat Kohli is likely to be rested so the team will be led by Rohit Sharma.
