BCCI Send A Stern And Final Reply To PCB, Clarify Their Stand On Champions Trophy 2025
The report states that the BCCI has told the ICC that it will not travel to Pakistan for the upcoming Champions Trophy.
In a significant development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) that the Indian cricket team will not travel to Pakistan to participate in the 2025 Champions Trophy . This decision comes after the Indian government advised the BCCI against sending the team to Pakistan.
India will not travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy
According to ESPNcricinfo, the BCCI has communicated to the ICC regarding their participation in the upcoming Champions Trophy in Pakistan . The report states that the BCCI has told the ICC that it will not travel to Pakistan for the marquee ODI tournament.
The Champions Trophy is scheduled to take place in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9, 2025, and was expected to feature eight teams competing at three venues in the country. However, with India's withdrawal now looking inevitable, the ICC and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will need to activate a contingency plan to ensure the tournament goes ahead smoothly.
According to sources, a hybrid model is likely to be adopted, where teams will shuttle between Pakistan and a second venue, potentially in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This will ensure that all teams participate in the tournament while also respecting India's concerns about traveling to Pakistan.
This development is a significant blow to the PCB, which had been hoping to host a major ICC tournament in Pakistan for the first time since the 1996 Cricket World Cup , which it jointly hosted with India. International teams have not been travelling to Pakistan since 2008 when an attcked on the Sri Lanka team bust took place.
