New Developments on Bangladesh's Hosting of the Women's T20 World Cup Amid Regional Turmoil

Amid the unrest in the Bangladesh region because of violent protests, the T20 World Cup 2024 hosting rights might be taken away from them over the tense scenario. 15th August was the deadline reportedly set by the ICC to look for another venue. But they seem to be in talks with the Bangladesh Cricket Board and have been looking into the possibilities of hosting the World Cup in the country.

A BCB official revealed that the Bangladesh Army has assured to offer security during the World Cup, which is a primary concern to the ICC and the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

"There was a deadline today [from the ICC], but they are continuing with communications, hoping to resolve it as quickly as possible. The Bangladesh Army has assured that they will provide security for the World Cup, which was one of the major hurdles the tournament had to overcome," a BCB official told The Daily Star on condition of anonymity.

It was earlier known that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was unwilling to host the Women's T20 World Cup in India and Secretary Jay Shah has reportedly informed the ICC regarding their stance. The International Cricket Board would now have two backup options — Sri Lanka and the UAE — if Bangladesh could not host the T20 cricket spectacle and the Board is forced to move the tournament.
