Temba Bavuma elected to bat first after Jozi Stars won the toss. Gayle opened the innings with Reeza Hendricks. The southpaw started in his usual way as he slashed a wide one from Junior Dala for a six.

But Dala's comeback delivery was absolutely spot-on as the right arm quick managed to execute an inch-perfect yorker that crept past Gayle’s defence to shatter the stumps. It was a 146 km/hr delivery by Dala, which sent the stumps went flying.

The hosts’ batsmen didn’t justify their captain's decision as they were bundled out for 108 in 18.5 overs. Skipper Bavuma came in to bat at number 3 and he ended up as the top scorer, scoring 27 of 31 deliveries with the help of two fours. Dala was the pick of the bowlers as he ended up with impressive figures of 4-0-19-3.
