One of India's greatest batters, Shikhar Dhawan, this morning announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. Dhawan who is best known for his opening knocks that he played alongside Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli took to social media platforms to announce his retirement.
Shikhar Dhawan nicknamed ‘Mr ICC’ has had a rough couple of years recently as he went through a divorce and soon lost his place in the Indian Cricket Team. ‘Gabbar’ continued to play in IPLs throughout this time. Now Shikhar Dhawan has announced his retirement from all formats of the sport.
Upon the news of Shikhar Dhawan's retirement, the cricket fraternity was full of praises for the star opening batter.

Shikhar Dhawan has left his mark on several players and several franchises he has played for. Upon the news of his retirement several people and teams were full of praises for him. This includes Mohammad Shami, Wasim Jaffer and IPL team Punjab Kings. Wasim Jaffer wrote a heartfelt message for the batter. Even Indian Team coach Gautam Gambhir was full of praises for the outgoing Indian batter. Apart from that Indian cricket legends such as Virender Sehwag and Suresh Raina also took to social media to write heartfelt and emotional messages for the batter.
A Glorious Career Full Of Accolades
After a career full of glorious accolades, Shikhar Dhawan has finally decided to rest his bat and gloves. He has 10,867 runs in his International career which also includes 24 centuries.
In his retirement message, Shikhar Dhawan said, "I am standing at a point where when I look back, I only see memories and a new life when I look forward. It was always my dream to play for India, and I got to live it. I am thankful to a lot of people for that. First of all, my family, my childhood coaches and then my team that I played with for so many years. I got a new family, fame and love. But it is said that to move forward, you need to flip the pages.
"I am announcing my retirement from international and domestic cricket. As I bid farewell to my cricketing journey, I have peace in my heart. I played a lot for my country. I only say this to myself, that you don't need to be upset about not playing for your country again, but be happy that you had the opportunity to do so."
Shikhar Dhawan last played for Indian against Bangladesh back in 2022.
