Cricket: Rashid Latif compares Sourav Ganguly to freedom fighters
Sourav Ganguly is all set to become next president of BCCI. Rashid Latif praised ex-Indian skipper by comparing him with Bengal leaders and freedom fighters.
Former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly is all set to become the next president of BCCI. While speaking with ANI, present interim chief of the governing body, CK Khanna said, “It is a matter of great pride that former India captain Sourav Ganguly is now set to lead as president of BCCI with his vast experience as a cricketer and as former India captain."
The 113-Test veteran is currently the member of Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) and is the president of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). Ever since the news broke that the former Indian skipper will take be taking over as the next president of BCCI, the entire cricketing fraternity has congratulated Sourav Ganguly.

The stylish left-handed batsman also received congratulatory messages from across the border in the form of Shoaib Akhtar and Rashid Latif. Former Pakistani speedster Shoaib Akhtar heaped praises on his competitor from the past, saying that Ganguly was responsible for changing the face of Indian cricket. His teammate and veteran wicketkeeper Rashid Latif also talked on the subject as he spoke about how Ganguly’s appointment could change the entire scene of the sport in the country. The presence of Ganguly at the top could also help change the structure of Indian domestic cricket for good as the cricketer himself stated earlier that he will be prioritising the financial health of India’s first-class cricketers.
Ex-Pakistan captain Rashid Latif compares Ganguly with Bengal leaders
Rashid Latif also went onto compare Ganguly with Bengal leaders and freedom fighters. He said that Ganguly belongs to Bengal, a land which has given a lot of leaders. He opined that due to Ganguly’s experience of handling an administration like CAB, the 2003 World Cup-runners up captain would manage BCCI successfully.
Sourav Ganguly announced his international retirement in 2008 after representing India in 113 Tests and 311 ODI’s. The left-handed batsman scored 7,212 runs in red-ball cricket and 11,363 runs in the limited-overs format.
