Champions Trophy 2025: South Africa batter David Miller slammed an unbeaten century in the second semi-final clash of the Champions Trophy 2025 against New Zealand, but it all went in vain after Proteas failed to seal a spot in the final of the ongoing ICC tournament. South Africa conceded a 50-run defeat against the Black Caps on March 5 and had to say goodbye to the prestigious tournament.

The Proteas showed grit throughout the tournament and clinched two victories in the group stage of the Champions Trophy 2025. Their second group game against Australia was abandoned after rain played a spoilsport. However, in the semi-final, South Africa failed to put up a show against the Kiwis.

David Miller Topple Indian Batter To Achieve Elusive Feat

With his fiery knock, Miller broke Virender Sehwag's 23-year-old in the Champions Trophy. The Proteas middle-order batter scored the fastest century in the history of the tournament, toppling Sehwag's landmark. Miller smashed the 'bittersweet' century against South Africa by 67 balls and etched his name on the record books. Previously, Sehwag held the record with his 77-ball century against England in 2002.

Team South Africa's upcoming fixture is on June 11, when they will face Australia in the final match of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2024-2025. Following that, the Proteas will take on England in a three-match ODI and T20I series.

Recapping Proteas' 50-Run Defeat To Black Caps In CT 2025

The Proteas bowling attack showed a poor performance and failed to pick wickets in crucial intervals, helping Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson slam stunning centuries in the first inning. Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips also played pivotal roles during the Kiwis' inning, which propelled them to a score of 362/6.

During the run chase, Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen helped South Africa to have a kickstart with their 105-run partnership. But the Black Caps managed to bag wickets at crucial points of the second inning, helping them to maintain the dominance.

It was David Miller who was the lone warrior for the Proteas, but all his efforts went in water as they fell short of 50 runs to seal the game. Miller played a stunning knock on March 5, scoring 100 runs from 67 balls at a strike rate of 149.25. He slammed 10 fours and 4 sixes during his time on the crease.
