After Australia's exit in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024, David Warner has announced his retirement from international cricket
David Warner, fondly called the 'Hum-Bull' by his Aussie teammates has had an exceptional run on the international stage. The Aussie opener who played all the three formats for the Kangaroos has now decided to hang up his boots and let the next generation take over and carry the mantle of Australian cricket forward. The left-handed batter maintained a firm silence on his retirement for a very long time but now he has come out in the open and has expressed his feelings.
Warner Leaves Australian Selectors In A Confused State
After Australia were knocked out of the recently concluded T20 World Cup, it was perceived that David Warner had decided to move away from international cricket. While speaking about the same, Aussie opener Usman Khawaja said that Warner had been a faithful servant of Cricket Australia for a very long time and he deserved the World Cup glory to bid goodbye to international cricket in style.
Weeks after Australia's shocking exit, Warner has made his retirement official, but has also left a grey area in his post. Warner has expressed his wish to play the Champions Trophy scheduled for 2025 which leaves the Australian selectors in a very precarious situation. 'I will continue to play franchise cricket for a while, and I am also open to playing for Aus in the Champions trophy if selected. To the players and staff, thanks for putting up with me. No more what’s app junk, your ears are now going to be free of my voice. This team has had unbelievable success', mentioned Warner in his retirement post.
