India defeated Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2023 championship match by 10 wickets, sealing the victory in just 6.1 overs to record their quickest triumph in ODIs. Mohammed Siraj decimated Sri Lanka's batting order and finished the match with the figures of 6/21. The eighth Asia Cup title for India would undoubtedly give them more confidence going into the ODI World Cup, which starts in just over two weeks.

Mohammed Siraj has received praise from Aakash Chopra for taking advantage of the marginally favourable circumstances during the Asia Cup 2023 final match between India and Sri Lanka. On Sunday, September 17, in Colombo, the Men in Blue were able to dismiss the Lankan side for just 50 runs thanks to an outstanding effort from Siraj, who recorded figures of 6/21 in seven overs. After their outstanding bowling performance, Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan teamed up to form an unbroken opening partnership of 51 runs, ultimately guiding India to a thumping victory and claiming their eighth continental championship.

Chopra praised Siraj in great detail as he assessed the match on his YouTube channel, praising the bowler for his amazing role in India's victory. He said: 

Sensational, spectacular Siraj showed his magic. It's not enough no matter how much you praise Siraj. I am not saying that the conditions were not helpful at all but the conditions were as helpful for Jasprit Bumrah.

Some deliveries were extremely good. He bowled one from the edge of the box which went away and Dasun Shanaka got bowled. That was a beautiful ball. James Anderson opened up Murali Vijay like that at Lord's once but that was a Test match and to do that in white-ball cricket - outstanding. Then incoming balls - outstanding.

Comparing Siraj to the star English bowler means that the Indian fast bowler has a promising future. So far, for India, he has played 29 matches and taken 53 wickets. He was even named Player of the Match against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2023 final.
