After making a noteworthy change in the test cricket, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has now assured his complete support for the development of cricket in Jammu and Kashmir. This statement comes after representatives consisting of team captain Parvez Rasool, mentor Irfan Pathan and a top official met the BCCI president at the headquarters on Monday. Pathan, who is the mentor of Jammu & Kashmir cricket team feels that the focus should be on grassroots and domestic cricket for the development of the sport, and Ganguly will play a crucial role in their upliftment. Pathan in his earlier statement had said:
"He is rightly backing domestic cricket and cricketers because he knows how important it is. He knows the structure very well he has gone through it. He will do everything to get first-class cricket in better shape, which is the pillar of Indian cricket."
BCCI assures full support
Things haven’t been going well for the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) of late. They had gone through a crisis in the last few months. After the meeting Pathan and Rasool, the BCCI said that the situation "will be clear in the next one and a half months". As per sources, a senior Jammu and Kashmir CA official said:
“The BCCI president heard their points and has assured full support for the development of cricket in the region. We have requested the BCCI president to provide us with better facilities. We expect that the home games of Jammu and Kashmir will once again be played in Jammu. We have a college ground in Jammu and we plan to upgrade and develop the facilities there so that first-class matches can be conducted."
However, an official statement Irfan Pathan and Parvez Rasool is ascertained. Jammu and Kashmir senior team are now playing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy group league fixtures in Surat. Shubham Pundir is leading the team from the front in Rasool’s absence.
