'Cricket Will Grow Tremendously': Gautam Gambhir's Message To Jay Shah On Becoming New ICC Chairman

Jay Shah was elected unopposed as the new independent chair of the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday. Jay Shah will take over from New Zealand's Greg Barclay who did not seek a third term. 

As Jay Shah was announced as the new ICC Chairman, new Indian Cricket Team head coach Gautam Gambhir took to X to congratulate the BCCI secretary. 

Gautam Gambhir's message to Jay Shah

Jay Shah at 35 years old has become the youngest to have been named as the chairman of ICC. As Jay Shah was elected unopposed as the new chairman of ICC, new Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir took to X to share his congratulatory message for Jay Shah. 

Gautam Gambhir remained confident that under Jay Shah cricket will progress by leaps and bounds and he will spearhead a change in cricket. 

“Many congrats Jay Shah bhai! I know world cricket will grow tremendously under your exceptional leadership,” wrote Gautam Gambhir on X congratulating Jay Shah.

Jay Shah's aim after becoming ICC Chairman

Newly-elected ICC Chairman Jay Shah on Tuesday said he will look to ensure that Test cricket forms the "bedrock" of the game in his tenure during which he will also try to "dismantle barriers that have hindered cricket's progress".

The 35-year-old Shah, who has been the BCCI secretary since 2019, will take over from the 62-year-old incumbent Greg Barclay on December 1 as the youngest ICC Chairman after the New Zealander decided against running for a third consecutive term of two years.

"While the T20 is a naturally exciting format, it is equally important that Test cricket remains a priority for everyone as it forms the bedrock of our game. We must see to it that cricketers are driven to longer format and our efforts will be channelised towards this goal," Shah said in a statement issued by the BCCI. 

Jay Shah will take over as the ICC Chairman from December 1st 2024.
