BCCI set to announce Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach of India soon!-Reports

Gautam Gambhir, a former opener for India, is set to succeed Rahul Dravid as Team India's new head coach. Dravid is presently serving his final tour with the team at the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and the West Indies. His contract was extended following the ODI World Cup last year, where India lost to Australia in the final by 6 wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

By the end of the week, Gambhir's appointment will be formally announced by the BCCI, as per Dainik Jagran's report. Additionally, the report stated that Gambhir will choose his fielding, bowling, and batting instructors, among other support personnel.

As of right now, T Dilip is the fielding coach, Paras Mhambrey is the bowling coach, and Vikram Rathour is the batting coach for Rahul David. Rathour joined the team during Ravi Shastri's stint, taking Sanjay Bangar's place; Dravid selected Mhambrey and Dilip.

After ending his playing career Gambhir has only mentored and not coached IPL franchises despite having no prior coaching expertise, his mentality is anticipated to add glory into the Indian Cricket Team. Before going back to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and leading them to a third title success last month, he mentored for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for two years.

Gambhir will need to resign from his KKR post in order to take up the role of Indian coach. At first, reports that went viral were that, several former cricket players were considered for the position, including current Rajasthan Royals coach Kumar Sangakkara, former Australia captain Ricky Ponting, former Australia coach Justin Langer, and former England coach Andy Flower.

But in the end, the majority of these contenders pulled out and even the BCCI secretary, Jay Shah said that he is looking for someone that has a deep understanding of Indian Cricket.
