Former Indian player Gautam Gambhir has heaped praises on Virat Kohli rating him as the best Test captain ahead of MS Dhoni and Sourav Ganguly. Gambhir lauded Kohli's captaincy and explained what sets him apart from the former captains after India beat South Africa in the second Test in Pune.
Kohli led India to an innings and 137-run win in the second Test against South Africa in Pune on Sunday by virtue of which India has taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match Test series. This was India’s record 11th consecutive series win at home going past Australia’s record of 10 series.
Gambhir heaps praise on Kohli's captaincy:
In the post-match analysis talking to the official broadcasters, Gambhir termed Kohli as a fearless captain who is not afraid of losing and said that was his biggest plus. He said that everyone talks about MS Dhoni, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid but with what Kohli has created India has started winning overseas as well.
He has taken the risk of playing an extra bowler which the previous captains have not been able to because they intended on saving the test match. On the other hand, Kohli is not afraid of losing and that's why he has been so successful added the former player.
Gambhir's recent criticism on Kohli's captaincy:
This statement from Gambhir comes a few weeks after he criticised Kohli on his captaincy. He said that he had a long way to go and his World Cup was great because he had Sharma and Dhoni besides him. He further added that captaincy credentials are noticed while leading a franchise. He compared Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni's IPL captaincy with Kohli's captaincy and said that the results were for everyone to see.
Since Kohli has been in charge of the team India last lost only two Test series. One during the 2017-18 tour of South Africa, while the other in England in 2018. This year, the Men in Blue have won series in Australia and the West Indies under Kohli's leadership. India nailed the series against South Africa 2-0 with a test to go and the Men in Blue will look to clean sweep the series and further strengthen their position on the ICC Test Championship points table.
