Rinku Singh received Fielder of the Series After Heroics in the India vs Sri Lanka T20Is
Following his outstanding performance in the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, Rinku Singh of Team India has been awarded the fielder of the series for the second running. His superb fielding also brought him recognition for his efforts in the preceding five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe.
Rinku was instrumental in the third T20I India won with a Super Over triumph to guarantee a 3-0 series sweep. Though he only scored one run from two balls after being moved to No. 4, his major contributions were in two vital catches and a penultimate over performance. He claimed two wickets and bowled superbly, just allowing three runs, therefore helping India to win the game.
Outstanding fielding abilities displayed during his stint with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have now been transferred to his international exploits.
Rinku Singh finished the Sri Lanka series as the leading fielder, having made four catches and several other remarkable fielding plays. T Dilip, the fielding coach, emphasised his tenacity during the medal giving ceremony.
Although Rinku initially missed a catch in the second T20I due to sliding on the wet outfield, he promptly regained his composure and capitalised on following opportunities, making significant contributions in crucial situations.
Ryan ten Doeschate, the recently hired assistant coach, awarded him with the fielding medal. Previously, ten Doeschate had served as the fielding coach for the Kolkata Knight Riders, where he worked with Rinku.
Upon receiving the medal, Rinku attributed his success to 'God's Plan, Baby,' even though he was not obligated to provide a speech. However, the coaching staff heartily praised him and his teammates hailed his achievement.
Although Rinku's performance with the bat was underwhelming throughout the series, as he only scored two runs in two innings and was unable to play in the rain-affected second T20I, his fielding was exceptional.
