Avesh Khan hails Shubman Gill’s leadership skills against Zimbabwe in the 3rd T20I
With Avesh Khan collecting two vital wickets in Harare on Wednesday, July 10, India defeated Zimbabwe in the third T20I of the series. Following his outstanding performance, fast bowler Avesh Khan hailed Shubman Gill as a bowler's captain. Attaching his success to the flexibility Gill allowed the bowlers in laying fields and running plans, Avesh removed opener Wessly Madhevere and the aggressive Brian Bennett.
India protected their strong total of 182 runs by 23 runs. Though Zimbabwe's later half of its innings was difficult, India's early successes—mostly resulting from Avesh's efforts—guarded a comfortable win. When asked about his performance, Avesh said he was happy and complimented Shubman Gill for helping him to get the wickets. Avesh Khan quoted after the match:
“Happy with my performance, I always try to have an impact for the team. I have no preference on where to ball, I am ready to bowl at any phase. Shubman is a bowler’s captain, gives us the freedom to set our fields and backs our plans. He is responsible for probably getting me 1-2 wickets today,”
A sensational catch by Ravi Bishnoi at backward point allowed Avesh to bowl Brian Bennett out. With impressive fielding skills, Bishnoi sprang and caught a tracer bullet above his head. In expressing his appreciation for the pivotal catch, Avesh recognised Bishnoi's extraordinary effort. Avesh Khan added:
“He is a good fielder, always takes catches like these, you would have seen it in the IPL as well. He always wants to take such extraordinary catches,”
Indian Cricket Team will be seen in action against Zimbabwe on Saturday, July 13, 2024. The Shubman Gill-led side is leading the series by 2-1, with 2 matches left to play.
