On Sunday, December 10, at the storied Kingsmead Stadium in Durban, South Africa and India will begin a three-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series.  It is impossible to exaggerate how important the opening game is since a strong start might give one of the teams a significant early advantage and set the tone for the fierce matches that will follow. Both teams, though, will be without a few seasoned players. Even though these seasoned players' absences will be noticed, it also gives up-and-coming talent a chance to shine and make a lasting impression on cricket history.

3 things you need to know

Irfan Pathan made a huge statement about Rinku Singh ahead of the SA tour

Before India's Twenty20 International series against South Africa, Irfan Pathan said he thought Rinku Singh was ready for what might be the hardest part of his early international career. The first T20I series between the Men in Blue and the Proteas is set to begin on Sunday in Durban. The Men in Blue are ready for this matchup. One of the 17 players in the T20I team, Rinku Singh, is anticipated to bat at No. 5 in the first game.

During a conversation on the Star Sports programme "Game Plan," Pathan was asked if Rinku Singh would have the hardest test in the Twenty20 Internationals against South Africa. Pathan responded by sharing his observations. Irfan Pathan said:

"I think he will enjoy the bounce and pace of the ball because he is the kind of cricketer who likes to face fast bowling. I really think he is a guy who is ready. Especially being a left-hander and especially being a free-flowing player will help."

“He is extremely impressive. When a guy has done the hard yards in domestic cricket and waited for his chance to come good in the IPL, that means he has got a lot of experience. He knows how to take those chances, that will come his way, with both hands.”

Pathan brought attention to an important point, pointing out that while Rinku Singh usually bats first, the opposition bowlers are frequently under pressure. He said he thought the left-handed batsman would be in a good position to take advantage of this and make the most of it in the Twenty20 International series against South Africa.
