ICC Rankings: Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's T20I Successors Take Giant Strides before IND vs SL
Team India recently defeated Zimbabwe by 4-1 in a five match T20I series. The 'men in blue' will now travel to Sri Lanka for six white ball matches
ICC Rankings: Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's retirement from T20Is has left a massive void in Indian cricket. India is fortunately not short of quality and talent, but it is the amount of experience that the duo brings to the table. Both Rohit and Virat announced their retirement from the shortest format of the game after India won their second T20I World Cup on June 29, 2024. The Indian team is now in transitional phase and will be overlooked by India's new Head Coach Gautam Gambhir.
Shubman Gill And Yashasvi Jaiswal Climb Up The Ladder In T20I Rankings
After Virat and Rohit gone from the shortest international format, the onus to open the innings for India falls on Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal. The duo certainly has some serious competition from Abhishek Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad but as things stand now, Gill and Jaiswal would be Team India's first choice openers for the upcoming bilateral series.

After the culmination of the recent IND vs ZIM T20I series which ended in India's favour, both Shubman and Yashasvi have made some notable gains in the recently released ICC Rankings. Jaiswal who joined the series midway, accumulated a total of 141 in three games for Team India with a staggering average of 70.50. The Mumbai youngster has risen up by four places and is on the sixth spot of the T20I rankings.
Shubman Gill on the other hand who scored 170 runs from five innings and led Team India to a 4-1 series victory has risen up 36 places to end up on 37th. The duo is in contention to make it to Team India's T20I squad for the Sri Lanka series.
A New Era Awaits Team India
Gautam Gambhir has taken over from Rahul Dravid as the Head Coach of Team India. Dravid signed off as the Indian team's Head Coach after India's historic T20 World Cup triumph on June 29, 2024. The Gautam Gambhir era starts with India travelling to Sri Lanka for a limited over series. The 'Men in Blue' will play 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is in the island nation
