In the aftermath of Pulwama terror attack, Cricket Club of India covers Imran Khan's portrait; mulls bringing it down permanently

Following the outrage surrounding the brutal terror attack by Jaish-e-Mohammad in the Pulwama district along the Jammu-Srinagar highway on Thursday, which resulted in 40 CRPF jawans losing their lives, the Cricket Club of India has covered Pakistan PM Imran Khan's portrait at its headquarters and is mulling to bring it down permanently.

Imran - who was a much reknowned cricketer before his entry into politics - and his government are yet to take a concrete stand in regards to the terror attack in India, this despite the JeM - a terror outfit backed by Pakistan - claiming responsibility for the IED blast.

Given the sensitivity of the incident and furore among the Indian faithfuls, the Cricket Club of India has, for an interim period, decided to cover the portrait of the former Pakistan skipper as mark of respect for the CRPF jawans who were martyred.

"We respect Imran Khan's cricket credentials but at the same time he is Pakistan PM & we're just showing our solidarity for our forces & our country," said CCI President Premal Udani before adding, "We have temporarily covered his portrait but we will soon meet and decide over removing his portrait from CCI permanently. It's a weekend and we hope in some days, we will have a detailed board meet and a decision for removal of this portrait will be taken in that."

A total of 40 CRPF jawans lost their lives and several others were injured when an IED blast rocked a 70-vehicle convoy carrying the security personnel from Jammu back to Srinagar. Hours after the incident, JeM claimed the responsibility for the attack.

The Pakistan government, instead of accepting responsibility and taking action against the terror outfit, merely condemned the incident and backed away from having any role in the attack.
