Team India is in a race against time as they gear up for the upcoming red-ball series against Australia. Amid the anticipation, Virat Kohli remains in the spotlight as the star batter prepares for action. The India batter hasn't been at his best lately, and given the Australia series would be a critical one for the Men in Blue, he needs to find his form back. Ahead of the series, Sunil Gavaskar expects the India superstar to go big in the Border-Gavaskar trophy and believes that Virat would find his form back.

Sunil Gavaskar Expects Virat Kohli To Go Guns Blazing In Australia

During an appearance on Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar backed Virat Kohli to deliver his best performance while down under. While Kohli has been through a lean phase lately, Gavaskar backed Kohli's track record in Australian conditions, saying that it would give the right-handed batter the enhanced confidence he needs for the crucial Test series. While the former cricketer believes Kohli may need some luck, and once he sets off a good start, he could go big in the entire series.

“Because he hasn't scored runs against New Zealand, he'll be very, very hungry. Even in that Adelaide Test, where India was bowled out for 36 in the second innings, Kohli scored 70-plus runs in the first innings before being run out.

"He has consistently performed in Adelaide, a ground he knows well. Before Adelaide, it's Perth, where Kohli played one of his finest Test centuries in the 2018-19 series — a terrific hundred. Having performed on these grounds, he'll feel an extra bit of confidence. Of course, you need a bit of luck at the start, but if he gets off to a good beginning, he will score big runs," Sunil Gavaskar said.

Over the past few months, Virat Kohli has had a hard patch in every format. He has only managed two tons and 11 half-centuries in the 60 Test innings he has played. The batter has only averaged 22.72 in six Test matches this year, and he could score just 93 runs in the entire series against New Zealand. Even with these setbacks, Kohli has an incredible record in Australia, and the batter is expected to bring out his aggression and intent against Australia at the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy.

The spotlight will be on Virat Kohli as the series draws near in hopes of maintaining his sound record in Australia and recovering with his signature tenacity before the year ends.
