IND vs BAN 1st Test: Rohit Sharma 's Team India has started its final phase of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 cycle. India play 10 Test matches in this final phase. Five of them are to be played at home (two against Bangladesh and three against New Zealand) and five of them come later this year against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India are currently at the top spot of the World Test Championship points table.

Bangladesh currently has been in red hot form. They recently beat Pakistan 2-0 in Pakistan and are high on confidence. On the first day of the Chennai Test match, the series openers, Bangladeshi pacer Hasan Mahmud wreaked havoc on the Indian cricket team's fabled batting line-up. Mahmud dismissed Rohit Sharma , Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant .
When Pant came out to have a crack at Bangladesh , India were already reeling on 34/3. It took the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman seven balls to score his first Test runs in two years time, but as soon as he put bat to the ball, he found his groove back. While batting on 19, Pant created a unique record and has now joined MS Dhoni in an elite list. Rishabh Pant has now become only the second Indian player after former India captain MS Dhoni to complete 4000 runs as a wicketkeeper in international cricket.

Rishabh Pant who is generally known for his aggressive approach did a good job of stabilizing the innings alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. Pant played an innings of 39 runs off 52 balls. he hit six boundaries and scored these runs with a strike rate of 75.00.

India are currently at the top of the World Test Championship points table, but there is still a lot to play for them. India have already played two World Test Championship finals but they have have always ended up on the losing side. The Indian team is eyeing a third consecutive World Test Championship final but for that to happen, they need to step up and start the Bangladesh series on a positive note.
