IND vs NZ 3rd Test, Day 2: Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja starred with the ball as Team India took control over New Zealand in the third Test at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. India enjoyed a pretty eventful Day 2 of the third Test as they took 8 wickets in the final session of the game to find themselves in a winning position.
However, the best moment of the day came when Ravichandran Ashwin defied age to take a fantastic catch of Daryl Mitchell running backwards and ended up stunning the Wankhede crowd.
Ravichandran Ashwin stuns Wankhede crowd
India had started strong with the ball in hand but New Zealand were clawing themselves back into the game with a strong partnership from Daryl Mitchell and Will Young. Mitchell and Young were on the aggressive as they started putting pressure back on India.
But in 28th over, Daryl Mitchell stepped out against Jadeja in an attempt to hit a six. Mitchell mistimed the shot and Ravichandran Ashwin sprinted back from inside the covers towards the boundary rope and stunned everyone with a fantastic grab.
Ashwin's teammates were elated at the way Ashwin caught the ball and celebrated with him. Not only that, Ashwin also stunned the Wankhede crowd with his catch as they started chanting his name.
India in control on Stumps of Day 2
New Zealand reached 171 for nine at stumps in their second innings on day two of the third Test against India here on Saturday.
Will Young (51 off 100) top-scored for New Zealand.
The visitors lead India by 143 runs and the Test match will likely end by the second session of third day.
At the close of play, Ajaz Patel (7 not out) was at the crease.
Ravindra Jadeja (4/52) and Ravichandran Ashwin (3/63) shared seven wickets between them for India.
Earlier, left-arm-spinner Patel (5/103) took five wickets to help dismiss India for 263 in their first innings.
Brief Scores: New Zealand 235 all out and 171 for 9 in 43.3 overs (Will Young 51; Ravindra Jadeja 4/52, Ravichandran Ashwin 3/63).
India: 263 all out in 59.4 overs (Shubman Gill 90, Rishabh Pant 60; Ajaz Patel 5/103).
