IND vs PAK: How can India qualify for Asia Cup final if reserve day also gets washed out?

India vs Pakistan match continues to be on the mercy of rain gods after heavy rains forced the umpires to call off the Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 match on September 10. India reached 147/2 before rain forced the umpires to take the match into the reserve day.

Heavy rain disrupted the much-anticipated Super 4 cricket clash in Colombo. India, having a strong start at 147 for 2 in 24.1 overs, were forced to postpone the match due to continuous downpour. The Indian team had initially dominated the game, with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill forming an impressive opening partnership of 121 runs, both achieving half-centuries at a remarkable run rate. 

Pakistan's bowlers struggled against the Indian batters, particularly Shaheen Shah Afridi in the early overs. However, Pakistan made a comeback by quickly dismissing both openers. Rain interrupted the match when it was set for an exciting conclusion, and despite umpire inspections, the weather had the final say. The fate of the game remains uncertain, with more rain predicted, and India may have to play three consecutive days if the match resumes, including their Super 4 fixture against Sri Lanka on September 12.

How can India qualify for final?

With both the teams eyeing the Asia Cup 2023 final, a win for India will strengthen their chance to reach the summit clash. Meanwhile, if Pakistan win, then they will progress to the final. Rohit Sharma-led side have their destiny in their own hands for now and wins over Sri Lanka (on September 12) and Bangladesh (on September) will take India to five points. 

However, if India lose to Sri Lanka and beat Bangladesh, they would have three points. In such a case, India would hope Pakistan's defeat against Sri Lanka. Under this, the net run rate will also play a role. And if India beat Sri Lanka but lose to Sri Lanka, they would need the results of other matches to go their way. India need to win at least two matches out of three to reach the final.
