Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh destroy South Africa's batting lineup
Arshdeep Singh stunned South Africa with a series of early punches during his explosive spell. In his opening over, the left-arm seamer dismissed Rassie van der Dussen and Reeza Hendricks on two consecutive deliveries. The two South African batters were unable to open their accounts. Then, at the score 42, he dismissed the formidable Tony de Zorzi, who had to return after scoring a mere 28 runs.
Arshdeep's top-notch bowling led him toward a five-wicket haul as he completely destroyed South Africa's batting lineup.
The 24-year-old picked up a big wicket as he clean-bowled Heinrich Klassen for six runs. Avesh Khan further removed Proteas skipper Aiden Markram and Wiaan Mulder in successive deliveries and secured his four-wicket haul.
Earlier, South Africa won the toss and decided to bat first against KL Rahul's Team India during the first One-Day International (ODI) on Sunday. Sai Sudarshan received his maiden ODI cap for India, while Nandre Burger made his ODI debut for South Africa.
Kuldeep Yadav, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer are the only players in the playing XI who recently played for India in the ODI World Cup 2023.
The Johannesburg surface showed a rather unexpected leaning towards spin, which provided an upper hand to India's bowling attack as they dismissed the home side for a mere 116 runs.
